Scott Miller Appsguild - Software craftsmanship, project management, and the biz of software
As I stated in a previous post, I am a senior developer at a company that has other senior development staff at other sites here in the U.S., as well as outsourced resources in India. It is therefore an interesting challenge to maintain high connectivity in an agile environment.

One of the keys to agile development is face-to-face communication with a team (agilemanifesto.org). But the team is far-flung. You would think that this would be a huge hindrance, but we use IM, e-mail, and VOIP conferencing as needed, often several times a day. This actually makes it relatively easy, except for the fact that in Bangalore, India it is night for most of our afternoon.

I visited a company in Iowa City, IA whose main programming staff were in Russia. The Russia team worked the same "hours" as the Iowa team, and they had video confercing. Posted on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 1:24 PM | Back to top
