Why does my BlackBerry Storm keep shutting off?

The most likely answer if you are in the USA is that you have your network setting set to "Global".  Set it to "1XEV" -- pretty much most metro areas in the USA can default to that setting without the same struggle. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Go to options (wrench icon)
  2. Go to Mobile Network
  3. There are 3 settings; mobile network, network selection mode and network technology. If the button for Network Technology says Global or GSM/UMTS -- select 1XEV.
  4. Recycle the device.

This should clear up the maddening recycling issue!

I haven't experienced this particular problem, but I'd be very interested in knowing what the solution is. Please stop by if you are able to find an answer. I should note that I happen to have Verizon as my carrier. Whenever I've talked to one of the techs--there's either a solution that day, or an authorization code to replace my phone by the end of the call. 2/22/2011 5:19 PM | plditallo

# re: Why does my BlackBerry Storm keep shutting off?

For the last two weeks my BB Storm 2 had been locking up and recycling multiple times daily. It has occurred, during a call, while checking emails, while accessing the internet and even while just sitting idle doing nothing. The recycles are progressively taking longer and longer and result in draining a previously fully charged battery. It will almost not even power on again until it is plugged into a charging source. Verizon has now replaced the device twice in the last week to no avail. Even the new devices are experiencing the same lock-up, recycle, shut off issues. Has anyone else been experiencing these issues? 6/24/2011 11:29 AM | Jill

I am wondering if you are running any specific applications. I had an RSS reader application that I loaded on to my second BB Storm that was was a memory hog. I removed it. That solved my problem. 6/29/2011 6:11 PM | plditallo
